DONT GET SCAMMED
Posted in Uncategorized on August 25th, 2010 by Damn RingerA little backstory to this:
My girlfriend is younger than I am and she isn’t quite as internet savvy as myself. She does alot of stuff through online though like the rest of us. She does nannying through a nanny site and gets some bizarre offers for jobs sometimes. She usually hands them over to me to see if they are legit. I was scammed once in my life on the web. It was for a measely $120 on ebay but I made it a point after it happened to never let it happen again. Never be so stupid as to give money to some douche. I’ve managed to save a few of my friends money in the process as well. Such as one friend asking if it was weird that some guy wanted $1000 over western union for some football tickets. I told him try to get the guy to do paypal… and boom, for some reason paypal wasn’t viable… and scam averted.
Anyways, my gf got back to school at virginia tech a few days ago and got an e-mail sent to her account about a secretary position. It paid $15/hr and like any broke college kid looking for a job she inquired. She soon got some very bizarre requests. The first was the person on the other end of the e-mails was trying to rush her into an interview right away online. As a general rule, if someone is trying to force your hand on something without giving you ample time to research… be suspicious.
She reluctantly agreed to do the interview on the spot. The next weird thing, the gentleman wanted to do the interview in type over Yahoo Messenger. LOL. That threw all the flags at her and that’s when she came to me asking if I found this as strange as she did. I agreed it was bizarre. Unless this was a guy who was 45 years old and didn’t know how to use the net… then it was likely a scam. Not to mention someone that uncomfortable with computers and technology would 99% default to the phone. She did the interview and it was most certainly a scam.
The guy was asking her to start tomorrow and when told she wasn’t interested in starting for a week… the man protested. The job was apparently going to be her printing checks for this company… and likely be a money mule for some scam and fake check ring. After the interview, Allison said she wasn’t interested and politely declined the offer (which she got without sending a resume anywhere)… and was sent this e-mail to consider:

I laughed pretty hard at how obvious this is but honestly, alot of people are probably falling for this. This is one of the most dangerous kind of scam because people know its too good to be true but likely actually cash a check and see the balance go up in the account so they don’t care. Only to find a month later and likely several thousand dollars later, that the checks are fake and you owe alot of money to the banks… money you likely transferred the majority of to the scammer.
It’s scary sometimes how people will go for things too good to be true. This is likely no exception. This ad is popping up on craigslists everywhere… so please be wary. Thankfully my gf heeds my advice now… and i think everyone else should too.
If someone wants to use Western Union in this day and age, you are getting scammed. The words western union from anyone should immediately send the message… I’m never seeing this money again and its basically untraceable.

Haha, welcome back to the blog. I have chosen a sparkling glitter gif of a royal flush. Gay? A little bit but relevant… indeed it is.
