Just one of those days…

oneofthosedays

The month is coming to a close and I’ve been working in some 2/4nl shots pretty regularly. Its been going very well, and I am very happy with my play the higher stakes. That said, my 200nl play is just lacking while I’ve got a few 2/4 tables open too. It’s weird how that affects your play. I thought this image was pretty hilarious, and a funny way to break even on the day.

Including today, the past 2 days my poker has just been trash.I find my play has been super-robotic and unthoughtful. When that happens, the red line dives and I just get myself into spots that I didn’t have a plan for. Its something that should always be on the lookout for. I didn’t quit fast enough today, I was up about 4 bi’s and finally ended up giving it all back and then 1. Yesterday on the otherhand, I just didn’t have the patience for poker. That’s part of the gig guys. Realizing when you don’t have your A game and hitting the eject switch.

I brought my C game to the tables for the last 2 days and it’s shown. Here’s a few dumpster fire pots I played…

Against a super weak tight player, he was a 20/6/1.2AF. This is a good way to light money on fire. It’s a ch/f on the turn imo.

Another just miserably played hand. This would be fine against a thoughtful player but I don’t think this guy fits the criteria for that. Super standard fold on the flop imo.

“Just in Time” June

Posted in Poker Related on June 26th, 2010 by Damn Ringer

donovan-get-100623-584Alright, some of you are gonna be like “WTF ringer, you are blogging during the USA world cup game”. Yeah, Everytime I get pumped about the world cup and anticipate the games. I get 5 minutes in and i’m like “wow, this is boring”. Not to mention there is a very reasonable chance that as I blog this, nothing of interest will happen in the game. We are down 0-1 atm and looking like we are getting outplayed. So there you have it, my views on soccer. I want to get into it, but quite frankly nothing but passing ever seems to happen. If soccer scores were like 10-8 and people could overcome big deficits, it’d be a much more exciting game. But i suppose that would make it lacrosse and that’s kinda boring too. Don’t get my wrong tho, I love the USA winning I just wish it could happen in a more exciting manner.

I have started cross-posting my blogs into my “featured” cardrunners blog. It seems to be getting more traffic than my website, so I might have to just move there. I cross-posted my “note taking” post and boom like 150 views. We’ll keep this blog here and i’ll just copy everything over for now. Having alot of viewers should motivate me to post more. Those of you reading this blog on CR and like the posts, please feel free to check out 2 years worth of blogs at www.damnringer.com.

I am going to submit a video at 100nl very similar to my one at 50nl in the next week to CR and hopefully they post it up. I am looking at doing some rather innovative videos as well, working with a math guy being one thing. I’m not sure I really want to make those videos my normal though. I think there’s just such a search for practical, useful answers in videos as opposed to drawn out math problems. That said, the best players in the world get there doing alot of those math problems so studying that stuff certainly can’t make me worse.

As predicted in my “Miserable May” post, I was going to have a “Just in time” June. My god, did that happen. I am running the hottest I’ve ever run in poker over a month period. I don’t put alot of stock into Allin-EV just cause its really worth less in the long term and doesn’t actually affect anything as it breaks even in the long term. I know alot of you guys that are running bad right now will disagree, but I’ve been in that spot before way more than this current spot and know how it works. I am running 15 bi’s above EV @ 1/2 this month. Its not that i’m getting it in bad and sucking out, its more I’m getting it in good in 60/40 situations and its holding and I’m winning all the flips. Its a pretty great feeling to run so hot.

We’ll see if I can close out the month strong, and hopefully put in at least another 10k hands. I would like to play 60k hands/mo for the rest of the year and stop being so lazy when it comes to working. Oh well.

That said, its the end of the blog and nothing has happened in this game.

Cardrunner’s Premiere

Posted in Poker Related, Shameless Self-Promotion on June 23rd, 2010 by Damn Ringer

Damnringer-logoMy video premiered on Monday. I’m not gonna lie I was pretty nervous that people would think I played like a total monkey or wouldn’t follow my thoughts. Well to this point, disaster averted. I have been amazed by the awesome reception my video has received. I was expecting a few people to either “disagree” with something I said, or be pissed at something I did in the video. On the contrary, I even received a few PMs informing me how much people enjoyed it. I am pretty overwhelmed with the love shown. I also received a PM with a few possible pointers for making the video and I greatly appreciated that too. So to everyone, thanks and if you have some ideas for a way to improve the next video, please I’m all ears.

I’d like to give a special shoutout to Micah from CR. It might be his job is to make graphics and animations but I was amazed with the job he did for mine on the main page. For those that want to see it, its still on the main CR page. If you read this blog a little late, a screenshot from the animation is the main picture for this post.

One more thing before I get into talking about the next video. I received a PM from a player on one of my tables in the video that is a CR member. He was actually a regular in what was probably the most interesting hand of the video. He sent me the HH from his end. He seemed less than thrilled he got outplayed but I don’t think there was a ton he could do in that spot. That said, hopefully he learned a few trick. Now all I need is the HH from CRxHodd showing me his A9cc and I’ll be a true genius. Here’s the link: http://weaktight.com/2398014 In future videos, I suppose I should be gentle with my explanations of HH’s.

I’m going to start working on my next videos shortly. I’ve had a few recommendations but I think i’m going to focus on the differences between the limits with my own personal touch in a series of videos. Something similar to what Nolan did on DC 2 years back. That was always one of my favorite full ring series when I was struggling and Nolan made it all that much better. Just a few preliminary ideas so we’ll see. Any topic suggestions would be greatly appreciated… I think everything has been done to some extent by someone else. But any ideas that you guys feel you would like to hear me explain would be greatly appreciated. Anyone interested in a leakfinder? Haha I’m sure that will generate comments. Leave them and if you haven’t posted before have no fear, you will get approved for comments.

Not 30 minutes after I post that blog. FTP sends an e-mail confirming my cashout has been approved. Blogging will get action imo.

Where O Where is my cashout approval?

20081228_terror_alert

So not to freak anyone out, but I cashed out for the first time since June 1st 4 days ago. I got the e-mail saying that it was pending approval. It still hasn’t been approved and normally it takes less than 48 hours to get approval for bank wires.

I’m not that worried, but its still a little alarming considering I’ve gotten paid via rakeback and coaching. Both were pretty quickly approved. Seriously though, I’m not freaked. I’d say I’m at code yellow at the moment. And a rare doubleflyish picture that has somewhat funny ramifications.

Onto other things, my june has been a pretty ridiculous month so far. I am running pretty damn well (10 bi’s above EV) but yet still not crushing as hard as I think I should be. I feel like I’m really on top of the 1/2nl games these days as I pretty fear no regs but maybe mamba and ren. Not to mention, I look at the 2/4nl games and they don’t look that tough. I played a session at 2/4nl earlier this month and was shocked how many of the regs have really glaring leaks still. I guess its not too surprising but I just get this idea in my head that all regs at 2/4+ are going to be playing perfect games for the most part since that is the highest you can play full ring consistently. There’s a reason they aren’t playing 10/20nl 6m I suppose.

Back to the month at hand, I’ve already grinded close to 40k hands and I’m feeling really good about the developments in my game over the last 6 months. I have become a reg leak finding machine since the games have gone super-reggy. Hopefully the 10 bi’s, I’m up in EV don’t come crashing down this month. It is nice to run hot for once and I am great appreciative to be on the other end for if only a month.

My first Cardrunners video is set to debut Monday. If you look on the main menu of cardrunners, you will see my video listed as the only thing offered on monday. I feel like the video was pretty good. I played rather agressively and made the point of hammering home how to beat down 50nl (and 100nl) regs. The video is at 50nl but the regs at 100nl have alot of the same leaks I’m pointing out on the video. Hopefully people don’t just see my PTR and think “breakeven nit” and completely discredit the ideas in the video. If you have a membership, check it out and critique or praise it on monday. Whichever is necessary… and don’t bother looking at my PTR plz.

On a different note, I got a big weekend/week of friends. I have about 12 people in town for 2 different weddings in the DC area. Luckily for me, I’m on the outside of the “bubble” and didn’t get invited to either. It’s guys from my fraternity that I was friends with but by no means would call on a daily basis or even a basis for that matter. Either way, my house is the launching pad for people staying here. My buddy, Fuppnasty on FTP, just got here as well. I managed to get myself sick last night, which was lame but luckily I think tonight is gonna be the big party night. Also after everyone leaves on sunday night, I have another visitor coming into town. Mr. AlwaysLimp will be coming down to DC for a few days. I think we are just gonna play golf, poker and drink for the 3-4 days he’s here. It should be a good time, and 200nl gets a break from 2 pretty good regs in the process too. I’ll post an update after the video drops and likely at the end of the month.

Miserable May

Posted in Poker Related on June 1st, 2010 by Damn Ringer

Welp May was one of those months. It was one where I barely made any profit. Thankfully its over and I was in the green somewhat. This graph is a little too forgiving so I included the hand breakdown. As you can see the 2/4 shots were less than successful. I basically made no money this month. Woooo working for a month and having nothing to show for it!

miserablemay

Add about 1k for coaching and + 1k for rakeback.

Thankfully “Just in time” June is here.  Have a good one guys.
