Update: End of March
Its been a long time guys. I apologize for that. I have been pretty supremely busy so when I have any time at all, its usually spent playing poker. I have managed to play about 27k hands of poker this month. Well under my goal, I ran ok, but still about 1.5k under expectation. Kinda annoying but can’t complain about running 10bb/100 on a month.
I just got back from my trip to blacksburg (aka virginia tech) and we did bar golf. I’m not sure if you guys are familar with this concept, but basically you get a group of people together and dress in ridiculous golf attire. You then go to 18 bars (aka holes) in an order. If you drink a beer at that bar you shoot a par. If you drink nothing, you get a bogey. If you drink 2+ beers you get -1 for ever beer over 1 you drink. Its a pretty hilarious game especially since you are just barraging bars at like 4pm with 50 people in ridiculous attire. Anyways, it was a ton of fun and I actually got my first hotel room for my trip back to tech. Kinda depressing that i’m getting that old, but oh well, I’m not sleeping on a couch with my GF tyvm. I had a great time, and finally finished my marathon april. I had something going every weekend, so it was really kinda annoying.
I am offically taking it easy in april. I am going to go out once a week, and buckle down for this test coming up at the end of the month. I am really not excited about this thing, but I am really excited for what comes afterwards… VEGAS! I have also agreed to move to DC (where my GF is) after vegas is done. I really really fought moving there, because to be absolutely honest DC is the last place i would ever pick to live. Its just a horrible place imo. When i graduated, I hand picked charlotte as my new home, and my one rule during the whole ‘finding a job’ process was ‘absolutely no DC’. Well of course now, i’m moving to the place I really don’t want to live. Its not going to be horrible, as a ton of my friends from school live there and leigh lives there, but I can’t tell you how excited I’ll be when I finally move away from the place. Hopefully, I’m not there more than a year.
That’s basically where my life is currently heading. Being pro in 2009 has been exceptionally easy. I haven’t worked more than 20 hours a week and have made about twice what I would have been making at my previous job. I was expecting it to be so much more difficult and stressful than it is, but I think I just did it the right way. I managed to save up so much money by the time I got booted from my job, and was super bankrolled for 400nl. I can have like a 20 buyin downswing at 200nl and it wouldn’t be a huge deal, which is great. I am very glad that I have it setup that way. Stress is so overrated and I would recommend to any player who is thinking about going pro… get 200 buyins for a limit, and put a years salary in the bank before going pro. I know it sounds ridiculous but honestly just take a year and do it. After being pro for more than 5 months, I can’t imagine working a real job again. Its really not good. The idea of working my way up the corporate ladder is just stupid i think. I hope at some point I can manage to get myself in the mind set to go back to a real job, but what’s the point at this age? I am young, have money, and have time… why ruin it with work? I’m sure at some poitn this year I will be down during a month, I hope not but Its the reality of it. I think since I set myself up so well at the beginning of being pro, I’ve managed to create the possibility of being professional for a long time to come. I am continuing to go on my mission to stay professional for 2009, and try to make a 6-figure income in the process (which i am a little behind on).
On a totally less preachy but still “i’m so smart” note, I got netflix yesterday. WTF was I thinking not having netflix? I can stream it through my xbox for $8.99/mo?! Wow. I can’t wait to get my first movie in the mail, and finally I can catch up on the flix I haven’t seen yet, but all my friends say ‘are so funny’. I will now add movies to an already long list of things i do which involve sitting on my ass and looking at a screen. I am pretty excited though. Get netflix if you don’t have it.
I also just watched the most recent episode of high stakes poker on GSN. This is the best show on television I feel like. I mean granted if you don’t play poker, it wouldn’t be enjoyable but I look forward to this show more than any other during the week. I think the players are just incredible, and the play is just awesome to watch.
Anyways, my month went well, even though it really went about 6 buyins below expectation. I am going to be taking some shots at 400nl on FTP in the near future with the help of my coach… that’s right I got a coach. He’s pretty god damn money and has already opened my mind more than where it was. I hopefully will get back my skills to play 400nl on ftp with the big dogs. I will also continue to play 200nl and 400nl on cake this month while studying for my FE exam. I also hope to blog more this month about just random crap so check back in soon. GL in april guys.
DC huh…well yea DC sucks but the surrounding cities aren’t to bad! Im 25 minutes outside DC and will soon have my big brand new house built with some real good home games, you’ll have to make an appearance!
Dude, be my netflix friend. I’ll make sure you watch good movies.
Also, curious about the coach — willing to name names?
RJEJ: Yeah i’d be honored to play a few live games with ya… and yeah we are gonna live in the heart of DC so my GF can walk to work. BLAH.
Julie: You just went waaaaaaay over my head on the netflix friend! how do i do that, cause that sounds awesome? anddddddd My coach is Rask88.
oh and i’m gonna link to your blog, on my links julie. GL!
Sweet! I was afraid you were going to be like, “WTF, why would I want to be movie buddies with this random poker acquaintance who I haven’t even played with in ages?” Instead, I’m honored w/ my very own blog link and everything. I feel special.
For the Netflix friend thing, go to Browse DVDS>Friends>Invite friends. Then fill out the email thingy to steineck@gmail.com and click “send invitation.”
